Swimming with a horse in the Red Sea

Updated June 2026

Swimming with horses is the experience most people remember for years. At Aqua Horse the stable sits directly on a private beach, so within minutes of mounting you are walking your horse into the warm, clear water of the Red Sea — no long ride through the city first.

You start in the shallows so you and the horse get comfortable, then move into deeper water where the horse begins to swim and you float alongside its back. It feels surprisingly calm: our Arabian horses are trained for the sea and used to swimmers around them.

Wear a swimsuit under light clothes, bring a towel, and leave valuables in the locker we provide. We film and photograph the whole swim on your phone for free, so you leave with the kind of footage that does very well on Instagram.

A one-hour session is plenty for a first taste; two hours lets you split the time between a beach ride and a proper swim. Children are welcome with a guide and ride at half price.

Sunset horse ride on the beach

Hurghada is sunny almost year-round, so the question is less about the season and more about the hour. Early morning, just after we open, the sand is cool, the beach is quiet and the light is soft — ideal for relaxed beach rides and for nervous beginners.

Late afternoon into sunset is the most photogenic window. The desert turns gold, the sea glows, and silhouette photos against the horizon are stunning. If your main goal is content, book a ride that ends around sunset.

Midday is hotter, but the sea swim makes it comfortable — riding into the water is the natural way to cool down. Whatever time you choose, book ahead on WhatsApp so we can reserve a calm horse for your group.

Beginner horse riding on the beach

You do not need any experience to ride with us. Most of our guests have never been on a horse, and the beach is one of the gentlest places to start — flat, soft footing and calm, well-trained Arabian horses.

Your instructor stays with you the whole time, shows you how to hold the reins, sit and stop, and keeps the pace to a walk until you feel ready for more. There is no pressure to gallop; many people are happy walking and swimming.

Wear long trousers or leggings to protect your legs, closed shoes if you have them, and sunscreen. Children from about six years old can ride with a guide leading the horse, and they get a 50% discount.

The most important tip: book first, then come. Message us on WhatsApp, tell us your level and group size, and we will match you with the right horse.

What to wear for a beach horse ride

Keep it simple. Wear a swimsuit under light, comfortable clothes you do not mind getting wet or sandy. Long leggings or trousers stop the saddle from rubbing on a longer ride.

Bring a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. We provide a place for your things while you ride, but leave expensive valuables at your hotel. Your phone is welcome — we use it to take your free photos and videos.

Getting here is easy: take an Uber and type “Aqua Horse Hurghada” in the search, and the driver will bring you to the beach near the El Karma Hotel. Please book your ride first so we know when to expect you.
